Common questions
How do I find my controller on my home network?
Every controller announces itself on your home network by name. In a browser on the same network, go to http://<name>.local, for example http://jboards-a1b2.local. A new ESP32-P4 controller is named jboards- followed by four characters.
If that name doesn't open, look for the controller in your router's list of connected devices and type its IP address into the browser instead.
Not on your network yet?
- Controllers with an Ethernet jack: plug in a network cable; the controller gets an address by itself.
- ESP32-P4 controllers over Wi-Fi: the controller starts its own setup Wi-Fi network named like
jboards-XXXX. Join it with the password from the setup guide in the box, open the controller's page, and choose your home Wi-Fi on the Network page. - PocketBeagle 2 controllers: connect the controller to a computer with a USB cable and browse to
http://192.168.7.2, then set up the connection on the Network page.
The app can't see my controller
- Check the controller is powered on and that your phone is on the same home network. A guest network often keeps devices apart.
- Make sure the app is allowed to use the local network. If you said no when the app asked, turn it on in your phone's settings for the JBoards app.
- If a VPN is on, turn it off and look again.
- In the app, use Don't see it? to enter the controller's address, like
192.168.1.50orjboards-a1b2.local, or tap Scan network. - Can you open the controller's page in your phone's browser? If not, the problem is the network, not the app; see the question above.
The app says remote access needs a firmware update
Remote access depends on support in the controller's firmware. A controller running older firmware still works with the app at home, but can't be added to remote access until it's updated.
Update the controller from its own web page (its settings have a firmware update section) or from the app at home, then try again.
Do I need the app or an account?
No. Each controller serves its own web page that works in any browser on your home network, and your shows run on the controller with no internet connection. An account is only needed for remote access, once it's available, and for shopping at the store.
Does it work with xLights and FPP?
Yes. Controllers accept E1.31, DDP and Art-Net, play FSEQ sequences exported from xLights, show up in xLights and its FPP Connect uploader, and take part in FPP MultiSync shows.
How do I delete my account?
See Delete your account. You can do it in the app or by email.
